Healthy Women Know How to Look After Themselves

With all that happens in a woman’s life it’s those healthy women who are aging well. This means taking care of the issues that are only a concern to women and therefore being able to age gracefully, painlessly and without the fears or discomforts that often accompany the aging process. Once a woman slips into middle age there are many more things that she must be aware of to keep the second half of her life healthy and therefore allow her to enjoy the rest of her life.

To begin with healthy women should be certain to have a PAP test once every one to three years once becoming sexually active or once she has reached the age of twenty one and until she reaches the age of sixty five. This is common sense and can find problems that might otherwise go unchecked and could become serious later in life. It is recommended that women should have a mammogram every year to two years after the age of forty. If a lump is found early the cure rate for breast cancer is very good.

Other things to watch for healthy women to remain that way include high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and osteoporosis. All of these can be tested for regularly to ensure good health. But that is not all since emotional healthy is equally important. If women have regular bouts of feeling sad or low and they last over two weeks a woman should see her doctor to discuss the possibility of her suffering from a depressive episode. The health care provide should be able to diagnosis this and help her get through it.

Healthy women know that to stay healthy throughout their lives there are certain things they need to do on a daily basis. These include being physically active. This can mean anything from a brisk walk to mowing the lawn, swimming, or using an exercise bicycle at home. On average a mere thirty minutes of daily exercise can keep a woman healthy. Diet is also very important. It is best to eat lean meats, poultry and fish along with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables to maintain good health.  As well, those foods with lots of sugar, salt and saturated fats should be kept away from.

It is best for women not to smoke at any time but especially not when pregnant. Alcohol is another item that may be enjoyed but only in moderation; unless you are pregnant in which case it should be avoided all together. Suggested daily intake of alcohol should not be in excess of one bottle of beer or wine cooler or a one ounce glass of liquor or a five ounce glass of any type of wine.  As well, maintaining a constant weight is very good for you.  If gaining weight becomes an issue, slowly cut back on food intake and increase the amount of daily exercise.  Maintaining good health is really just using common sense to watch ones health, eat right, be active, have regular check-ups and watch outside influences, like smoking and drinking, that can cause ill health.
